S. Cotabato mining, quarry revenues reach P17-M

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The provincial government of South Cotabato has collected nearly PhP17 million in mining and quarry taxes in 10 months this year, its highest for the period in recent years.

Siegfred Flaviano, Provincial Environment Management Office (Pemo) head, said Thursday total collection from January to October increased by around PnP1.25 million based on last year’s 10-month receipts that reached PhP15.75 million.

Citing their records, he said their 10-month collection for mining, sand and gravel tax reached P16,991,073.57 or a monthly average of P1,699,107.357.

The official said their average monthly collection this year was up from last year’s record of P1,561,924.40.

In October, Flaviano said they posted their highest tax collection for the year with a total of P2,122,570.

With more revenues expected to come in until the end of the year, he said they are now sure of exceeding last year’s collection.

Out of the total tax collections for the period, he said the provincial government’s share has increased to P6,665,329.83.

The provincial imposition under quarry and mining covers sand and gravel tax, mining tax, mining permit fee, ore transport fee, occupational mining tax, verification fee, filing fee, permit fee, projection fee, processing fee, fines/penalties/surcharges, and miscellaneous (delivery receipts).

Flaviano said the local government is just around P1.7 million short of its total collection target of P18,743,092.83, which represent last year’s the total revenues.

Such figure was the highest since the creation of their office in 2007. The previous record was P15,790,315.30 generated in 2012.(PNA)
