Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Friday, May 19, announced her irrevocable resignation as a member of the political party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).

“This is to announce my irrevocable resignation as a Lakas-CMD member effective today,” Duterte said in a statement.

“I am here today because of the trust of the Filipino people in me to lead and serve them and the country, and this cannot be poisoned by political toxicity or undermined by execrable political powerplay,” Duterte said.

Prior to her resignation, Duterte was the party’s chairperson.

Meanwhile, political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) Secretary General Anthony Del Rosario clarified that Duterte will remain as their chairperson despite her resignation from Lakas-CMD. – gb
