A radio broadcaster was shot dead by a riding-in-tandem early Wednesday morning, May 31, in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

Cresenciano Bunduquin, 50, was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding suspects past 4:00 a.m. Wednesday near a local store in Barangay Sta. Isabel, Calapan City.

Bunduquin hosted “Ayos Mandin,” a show on DWXR 101.7 Kalahi FM.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) and the Presidential Communications Office mourned the death of Bunduquin.

“Absent of evidence to the contrary, his death is now deemed ‘work-related’ to facilitate the investigation,” PTFoMS said.

The driver of the motorcycle was shot dead by responding cops, however, the gunman remains at large.

PTFoMS is offering a reward of P50,000 for any information leading to the suspect’s immediate arrest.

“[We] assure the public that the PTFoMS, as a national inter-agency task force mandated to protect the life, liberty and security of all members of the press, shall not fail in its mandate,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Mimaropa Philippine National Police Press Corps (MPPC) condemned the killing of Bunduquin.

“The killing shows that journalism remains a dangerous profession in the country,” MPPC said in a statement.

“That the incident took place in Oriental Mindoro indicates how brazen the perpetrators were, and how authorities have failed to protect journalists as well as ordinary citizens from harm,” it added.

Bunduquin was the second radio broadcaster killed since October 2022, along with commentator Percy Mabasa.
