Negros Oriental Third District Rep. Arnie Teves was suspended for another 60 days by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 31.
Teves was also removed from his committee memberships.
The House Committee on Ethics and Privileges recommended the suspension and memberships forfeiture, after finding out that “unauthorized absences of Rep. Arnie Teves Jr. aggravated by his act of seeking political asylum in Timor Leste, resulted in his failure to perform his duties as House member.”
With his suspension, House Speaker Martin Romualdez will be the legislative caretaker of the third district of Negros Oriental beginning May 31 until July 30.
Teves, who is tagged in killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, was suspended for 60 days on March 22 this year. AG/With reports from Mela Lesmoras – gb
