A South Korean fugitive wanted by authorities in Korea was arrested by authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Friday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported.

Jeon Jihoon, 37, who was involved in a telecommunications fraud, was intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 1 after arriving via a China Eastern Airways flight from Shanghai.

“After conferring with the BI Interpol unit, the immigration supervisors on duty were able to confirm the Jeon and the person, whose name registered a hit in the Interpol database, are one and the same,” Joseph Cueto, BI’s Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BCIU) deputy chief for operation, said.

Jeon has yet to face deportation proceedings and is currently at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa.

Once deported, he will be banned from entering the Philippines.

His arrest warrant was issued on February 4 last year by the Busan District Court.

The fugitive is an alleged member of the voice phishing syndicate that has victimized hundreds of victims and accumulated nearly an estimated amount of U.S. $3.5 million. – gb
