1 of 2 LPAs likely to become tropical cyclone within 1 to 2 days

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

One of the two low pressure areas (LPAs) monitored by the weather bureau would likely develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 48 hours.

The two weather disturbances have no direct effect on any part of the country yet but there is a high chance that the LPA spotted 970 kilometers (km) east of Eastern Visayas, inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), would develop into a tropical cyclone within two days.

“It is forecast to move northwestward towards Northern Luzon, and recurve and move away from the country,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said.

The other LPA last tracked 910 km west of Northern Luzon outside PAR has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next several days, Villamil added.

He said the rain showers over the western section of Southern Luzon is caused by the southwest monsoon.

Palawan will continue to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas still prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said. – gb
