No volcanic earthquakes were recorded from the Mayon Volcano in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Monday morning, June 19.

In its 8:00 a.m. bulletin covering the past 24 hours, Phivolcs said 265 rockfall events and five pyroclastic density currents were observed, as well as a “very slow” lava flow reaching 1.5 kilometers.

Lava collapse was also observed.

Sulfur dioxide flux averaged at 889 tonnes on June 18, while plumes reached 600 meters high.
The volcano’s edifice remains inflated as it is retained at Alert Level 3.

This means entry into the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to the volcano remain prohibited.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 10,146 or 38,961 individuals have been affected by the volcano’s unrest.

At least 20,127 have been evacuated and are staying in 28 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC said total assistance provided to affected communities is estimated at P71,555,306.25. – gb
