Deaths in capsized fishing boat in Davao Oriental jump to 3

The death toll from the fishing boat that capsized in Davao Oriental jumped to three, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Saturday, June 24.

The body of another crew member of FB Genesis 2 was recovered around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

FB Genesis 2 sank 182 nautical miles off Baganga, Davao Oriental at around 1:00 a.m. on June 22.

According to the rescued crew members, they encountered a “sudden change in sea conditions” at around midnight, causing their fishing boat to sink.

The fishing vessel was carrying 24 crew members, 14 of whom have been rescued by responding fishing boats in the area. Six crew members remain missing.

The PCG deployed BRP Tubbataha to conduct search and rescue operations. – cf
