The Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said the apprehension of unauthorized private vehicles entering the EDSA Busway continues even with the reported decrease in the number of violators in the designated bus lane.

In the July 3 Laging Handa briefing, I-ACT chief Charlie Del Rosario said approximately 100 cases of violations were recorded last week, lower than the nearly 400 cases previously recorded.

“Nagko-concentrate lang tayo doon sa areas na talagang talamak ang pagpasok [sa busway],” he said, citing the northbound lane in Pasay.

The official said only vehicles with special permits issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, including authorized 550 bus units, and government vehicles classified as emergency vehicles, are allowed to enter the EDSA Busway.

“Kahit po tayo ay nagtatrabaho sa gobyerno, [at] ipakita yung ID nila na nagtatrabaho sila sa gobyerno, pero kung ang gamit nila ay pang-pribado nilang sasakyan, hindi po sila maaaring dumaan diyan [EDSA Busway] at puwede po silang mahuli,” he said.

Del Rosario said that apart from a penalty charge of P1,000, a license revocation is also imposed on violators who accumulate 40 demerit points. –ag
