Rainfall and tropical cyclones are still expected as the country experiences the El Niño phenomenon, an official of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“Nandiyan pa rin ang July, August, September na season ng ating habagat, and then pagpasok ng October medyo hihina na ang ating habagat,” Analisa Solis, assistant weather services chief of PAGASA, said.

Solis said there will still be tropical cyclone occurrences and rain bearing weather systems, with a possibility of habagat enhancement due to tropical cyclones.

PAGASA released on July 4 its first El Niño advisory, noting the likelihood of below-normal rainfall conditions that could bring about dry spells and droughts.

Meanwhile, Solis said 10 to 14 tropical cyclones may still affect the country this year.

Solis called on the public to efficiently utilize water amid the likelihood of low rainfall conditions. –ag
