The municipality of Carmona in Cavite officially became a city following a successful plebiscite on Saturday, July 8.

A total of 31,379 out of the 58,691 registered voters in Carmona participated in the plebiscite, which translates to a 53.46% voter turnout.

Of this, at least 30,363 or 96.76% voted “yes”, while only 1,016 or 3.24% said “no” to the ratification proposal.

The plebiscite was pursuant to the Republic Act No. 11938 or an act converting the municipality of Carmona into a component city signed on Feb. 24, 2023.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco in a statement noted the increased interest and more active participation of the electorate in the recent electoral exercises.
