The Water Resources Management Office (WRMO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has issued guidelines on water conservation following the issuance of an El Niño advisory by the state weather bureau.

Under Bulletin No. 002, the WRMO directed all barangay officials, as well as condominium and subdivision managers to advise their residents to conserve water by reducing lawn watering and vehicle washing.

They are also advised to promote rainwater collection and the recycling of water from laundry and dishwashing.

The guideline also instructs local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to expedite the approval of water pipe repairs of Manila Water and Maynilad.

The WRMO team will conduct random inspections of office buildings to identify unnecessary water usage, leaks and faulty bathroom fixtures.

Just last month, Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular No. 22 mandating all government offices to strictly implement water conservation measures to meet a 10% water volume reduction.

Through this, the WRMO will also review the monthly bills of all government facilities, with notices on excessive use of water issued to those who fail to follow guidelines. –ag
