The low pressure area (LPA) last tracked 295 km east of Infanta, Quezon and the southwest monsoon (habagat) will cause rains over most areas in the country, a state weather bureau forecaster said Thursday.

Patrick del Mundo of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.

However, it is forecast to bring heavy rains over Aurora, Quezon and Camarines Norte.

“Itong nasabing low pressure area ay mababa pa rin ang tiyansa na maging bagyo within the next 24 hours,” Del Mundo said.

“Ngunit inaasahan natin na posible itong lumapit sa may bahagi ng Aurora, Quezon, at sa may Camarines Norte area, kung saan nagtaas tayo ng weather advisory kagabi,” he added.

Both the LPA and the “habagat” will cause rains the entire day across Luzon, the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and BARMM, according to Del Mundo.

“Take precautions against possible flooding due to heavy rains,” he said.

PAGASA, meanwhile, said Davao Region and Soccsksargen will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to “habagat”.

Severe thunderstorms may also result in flash floods.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas still prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said.
