The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be implementing a 24-hour gun ban in three regions for the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on July 24.

Among the regions covered by the enforcement are the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.

The suspension of permit to carry firearms outside of residences (PTCFOR) will be implemented from July 24 at 12:01 a.m. until July 25 midnight.

PNP Spokesperson Jean Fajardo said initial assessment of intelligence reports recommended a 24-hour gun ban, which is shorter than the five-day ban implemented in the previous SONA.

“But as we progress, kung magkakaroon ng changes sa mga assessment ng mga intelligence reports na nare-receive ng security forces ay maaaring magbago ‘yan,” Fajardo said.

“[As] of today ay ‘yan ang nirekomenda ng security forces na coverage ng suspension ng PTCFOR,” she explained.

Exempted in the gun ban are uniformed personnel of the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. CF/With reports from Patrick de Jesus-ag
