‘Habagat’ to bring rain showers over parts of Luzon Monday

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Several areas in Luzon will continue to experience rain showers due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat” affecting the island’s western section, the weather bureau said Monday.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the provinces of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Benguet.

Moderate to heavy rains may cause flooding and landslides in these areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Strong winds and rough seas will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon.

Rough to very rough seas are likely over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon. Fishing boats and other small sea vessels are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. – gb
