Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa appointed Dr. Tony Leachon as special adviser for non-communicable diseases.

Leachon is a renowned internist and cardiologist who currently serves at the Manila Doctors’ Hospital.

Herbosa said the appointment of Leachon “would be beneficial to the Filipino people as he has exemplary knowledge and experience in the medical field.”

“Together, we continue to move steadfastly in further realizing the Universal Healthcare,” Herbosa said.

“With the aid of Dr. Leachon, we will ensure that Bawat Pilipino, ramdam ang kalusugan dahil sa Healthy Pilipinas, bawat buhay mahalaga,” he added.

‘Overwhelmed with gratitude and humility’

In a tweet, Leachon said he is “overwhelmed with gratitude and humility” to have been appointed as a special adviser.

“I am so honored to have the trust by our Health Secretary and be recognized for our collaborative work through the years,” Leachon said.

“It’s about time to work together to meet the huge challenges in healthcare,” he added.

Leachon said he hopes some of his ideas and plans will be helpful to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in the country. -ag
