The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to affect the western sections of northern and Central Luzon on Thursday, Sept. 7, despite its weakening, the state weather bureau said.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to be experienced in Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to habagat.

These may trigger flooding or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms are also possible.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said late Wednesday night that the effect of habagat “has weakened.”

Meanwhile, PAGASA said at 10:00 a.m. that a thunderstorm “is more likely to develop” over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna within 12 hours.

The cloud clusters over the Sulu Sea are also not expected to develop into a low pressure area.

“Itong mga kaulapang ito ay hindi magtatagal at inaasahan nating malulusaw pagdating ng tanghali o sa hapon,” DOST-PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.
