Tropical cyclone expected to enter PAR in Sept

The weather bureau is expecting at least one tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this September.

“We are expecting one tropical cyclone to enter or develop in the PAR until the end of the month. We don’t discount the possibility that a low pressure area might develop in the eastern part of the country,” Obet Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in the agency’s 5:00 a.m. weather bulletin.

As of Wednesday, no weather disturbance was monitored inside and outside PAR, he added.

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao, however, will cause cloudy skies and rains over parts of the island.

PAGASA forecasts scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to prevail over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region and the province of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani due to the ITCZ.

Moderate to heavy rains may result in flash floods and landslides, it added.

Metro Manila, and the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, but Badrina said there are high chances of rains in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said. – gb
