Two Filipino sweets—leche flan and sorbetes—made it to the list of the 100 best desserts in the world by Taste Atlas, a food and travel website.

At the 33rd spot is leche flan, a caramel custard made from milk, sugar, and eggs. Its distinct oval shape comes from the tin molds or “llaneras” used in preparing the Filipino sweet dish.

It is closely followed at 34th place by sorbetes, a Filipino ice cream traditionally made from carabao’s milk and comes in flavors such as mango, chocolate, cheese, coconut, and purple yam (ube).

Jokingly known as “dirty ice cream” because it is sold in the streets, the Filipino delight is served in tiny scoops on sugar cones. Some Filipinos even consume it sandwiched between buns.

Among the desserts that topped the charts were France’s crepes, Brazil’s Bombocado, Peru’s Queso helado, Italy’s tiramisu, and Crème brûlée, another French sweet treat.

Other sweets that made it to the list include dulce de leche, which occupies the 8th spot, frozen custard at the 16th spot, and Liège waffles at the 36th spot. Also present were brownies and chocolate chip cookies, which occupy the 52nd and 54th spots, respectively. –ag
