The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said four injured Filipino seafarers are “all out of danger” after they sustained non-fatal injuries in a missile attack on a ship docked at Pivdennyi port near Odesa, Ukraine.

DMW officer-in-charge Hans Cacdac said the four seafarers including the ship captain, able seaman, deck cadet, and electrician were at the ship’s bridge when the missile hit the Liberian-flagged ship Kmax Ruler.

“Thankfully, they were far enough from the point of impact and suffered non-fatal injuries,” Cacdac said.

Another port employee was also injured, while another died.

The DMW said the captain, able seaman, and deck cadet who sustained minor injuries are being treated on board, while the electrician who sustained a fracture on his left hand is being treated at a local hospital.

“As soon as we received the report of the incident, we instructed their manning agency and ship owner to determine what else can be done for them,” Cacdac said.

The DMW said it has also facilitated the communication between the families on the injured and their employers.
