The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday said to have collected around P20.8 million in fines from unregistered vehicles in December 2023.

According to a statement posted on its official social media account, the DOTr’s “sweeping crackdown” against colorum vehicles, led by Secretary Jaime Bautista, imposed penalties amounting to P200,000 per colorum van and P1,000,000 per colorum bus.

“The recent anti-colorum campaign targeted unauthorized PUVs with the sole purpose of safeguarding the welfare of road users,” DOTr said.

The transportation department likewise noted that it is expecting to apprehend more illegal and unregistered vans, buses, and other public utility vehicles in its campaign operationalized by the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Meanwhile, the SAICT also called on the public to report any suspicious or colorum transportation services to its hotline at 0920-964-3687. – avds
