Davao de Oro landslide deaths now at 55 – Maco LGU

The number of fatalities in the massive landslide in Maco, Davao de Oro has risen to 55, the municipal government said on Monday, as rescuers dug more bodies from the mud.

Based on the latest update of the Maco local government as of 7:00 a.m. on Feb. 12, around 32 people were injured while validation of the number of missing individuals and unidentified bodies is ongoing.

The Maco LGU on Sunday, reported at least 63 people were missing from the landslide that occurred on Feb. 6 caused by the combined effects of the shear line and trough of a low pressure area.

According to the latest situation report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 1,388,691 individuals or about 415,496 families in Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro were affected by the bad weather.

Of the affected number, around 40,050 individuals were staying inside 159 evacuation centers.

Damage to infrastructure stood at P738,619,756 while at least P212,544,830.84 of estimated damage to agriculture were reported.

About 1,345 houses were destroyed amounting to P50,000 – 787 partially and 558 totally damaged.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has distributed P200 million worth in family food packs to affected families in Davao Region. – avds
