Several local government units (LGUs) have suspended face-to-face classes for both public and private schools on Tuesday (April 2, 2024) due to anticipated high heat index exceeding 40°C.
As of 11 a.m., in-person classes are suspended in the following areas:
All levels:
- Sultan Kudarat (until April 15)
- Banga, South Cotabato (only afternoon classes are suspended until April 15)
- Tantangan, South Cotabato (only afternoon classes are suspended until April 15)
- Polomolok, South Cotabato (only afternoon classes are suspended until April 15)
- General Santos City (until April 5)
- Maasim, Sarangani (until April 5)
- Kabangkalan, Negros Occidental
- Isabela, Negros Occidental
- Silay City, Negros Occidental
- Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental
- E.B. Magalona,Negros Occidental
- Bago City, Negros Occidental
- Cauayan, Negros Occidental
- Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental
- Binalbagan, Negros Occidental (public only)
- Polangui, Albay (to implement half-day of face-to-face classes and asynchronous classes in the afternoon)
- Libon, Albay
- Caloocan City (afternoon classes will shift to blended learning except to Grade 6 students taking the National Achievement Test)
Daycare/Preschool to Senior High School:
- Quezon City (private schools may decide to suspend face-to-face classes)
- Iloilo City (private schools with proper air-conditioning facilities may resume classes)
- Bacolod City
- Talisay City, Negros Occidental
- Dumangas, Iloilo
- Roxas City, Capiz
- Mangaldan, Pangasinan
- Calasiao, Pangasinan
- Calumpit, Bulacan
- Malolos, Bulacan (public schools until April 3)
- Muntinlupa (afternoon classes in public schools)
- Dagupan City
Schools in areas covered by suspension of face-to-face classes are advised to shift to online and modular modes of learning.
Based on the Department of Education Order No. 37 series of 2022, private schools have full discretion to decide on their class suspensions provided that they have proper facilities to accommodate onsite classes during extreme heat conditions.
LGUs advised the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. – avds
