The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released a total of P5.830 billion for the construction of 1,834 new classrooms nationwide.

In a statement Thursday, the DBM said the classrooms will be built in 216 sites across the country.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman approved the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) for the funds on March 18, 2024.

“The timely release of funds for the project signifies our dedication and commitment to help in building a brighter future for our young learners,” Pangandaman said.

The released funds will support the first batch of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Basic Education Facilities Fund, which covers the provision of classroom and workshop buildings, replacement of old dilapidated buildings, provision of furniture, repair, and rehabilitation of classrooms, including water and sanitation facilities, and electrification.

Part of the released fund will be used for constructing, replacing, and completing kindergarten, elementary, and secondary school buildings, as well as technical vocational laboratories.

The project also includes installing or upgrading disability access facilities, as well as water and sanitation facilities and site improvements to enhance educational infrastructure in all income-class municipalities and cities nationwide.
