6.5-magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental on late Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs previously set the temblor at magnitude 6.7.

State seismologists reported that the quake hit 375 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island around 5:47 p.m.

Based on the information bulletin of Phivolcs, as of 10:48 a.m. of April 10, the tectonic quake had a depth of focus of 35 km. 

Intensity II was felt in Malungon and Glan, Sarangani, as well as in the City of Davao.

Intensity I was logged in the City of General Santos.

Meanwhile, the following instrumental intensities were recorded: 

  • Intensity II: Malungon, Sarangani
  • Intensity I: Alabel, Glan, and Kiamba, Sarangani; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental;
    City of Digos, Davao del Sur

According to Phivolcs, no aftershocks and damages were expected. – avds
