All 13 Filipino crew members onboard a vessel attacked by Houthi rebels in Yemen are safe, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Wednesday.

In an advisory, the DMW said it was informed by the shipping company’s local manning agency that the bulk carrier was hit by a missile attack while traversing the Yemeni coast near Hodeidah late Tuesday afternoon (local time).

The vessel sustained damage from four missiles launched by the Houthi rebels.

The agency added a Ukrainian seaman among the crew members who have been identified as safe.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration have also been informed by the manning agency regarding the incident.

“The DMW is communicating with the shipping and manning agencies, monitoring the safety and condition of our Filipino seafarers,” it said.

“The DMW is also contacting the crew members’ families to provide any assistance they may need,” it added.

According to the DMW, the vessel is continuing its voyage to its next port of call. – iro
