Police steps up ‘Ligtas Kapaskohan’ monitoring

DAVAO CITY — As Christmas Day is just around the corner, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 has stepped up monitoring against the sale and use of firecrackers, indiscriminate use of firearms in Davao Region with close to 3,000 police personnel deployed for Yuletide season.

As of Sunday, Davao region has zero incidents on illegal possession, use and sale of firecrackers and other firecracker-related cases, stray bullet, and indiscriminate firing.

PRO 11 spokesperson, Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna, revealed that overall, Davao region has zero incidents.

All police units in region remain on full alert status to provide maximum security coverage and intensify anti-crime campaign in Davao region.

Aside from police personnel, PRO 11 also tapped force multipliers like the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams and other stakeholders to ensure public safety.

PRO 11 Director, Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, said more police officers are out securing churches, malls, ports, terminals, and other places of convergence.

“We will strengthen all police operations and will employ all our resources and manpower just to make sure that holidays will be peaceful and safe,” Gaerlan said in a press statement released Sunday.

He said the police are also working hand in hand with the Department of Health, Bureau of Fire Protection, local government units and other government agencies to minimize if not to stop firecracker-related incidents in Davao Region during the celebration.

As this developed, Gaerlan further asked the public to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious bags/luggage, vehicles, personalities and activities to the nearest police station or security officers in the area. (PNA)
