The Quezon City government is set to roll out in the coming weeks eight electric buses to bolster its current fleet that offers free transport service to commuters.

In a press release Wednesday, Q.C. Mayor Joy Belmonte said this is part of the city government’s commitment to pioneering sustainable practices by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% in 2030.

“We are excited to roll out these electric buses as part of our city’s dedication to implement programs and policies that promote environmental sustainability,” Belmonte said.

“We are determined to take charge in instituting climate action such as transitioning to alternative energy sources,” the local chief executive added.

The project is being implemented in compliance with Republic Act No. 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which requires 5% of government fleets, whether owned or leased, to be composed of electric vehicles.

Each electric bus has a 41-seating capacity with ample space to accommodate standing passengers and is also equipped with wheelchair ramps to support the mobility of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
