Bohol’s Panglao Island was hailed as one of the Top 10 Trending Destinations for 2025, according to the leading global travel platform Skyscanner.
In a statement Sunday, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said the recognition of Panglao is a testament to the island’s appeal and rising allure for international travelers.
The DOT added that this achievement also showcases “Bohol’s commitment to sustainable tourism while its growing wellness hub status attracts travelers seeking tranquil getaways.”
According to Skyscanner, Panglao saw a 77% increase in flight searches during the first half of 2024, placing the island in 8th place.
Skyscanner described Panglao as another emerging “Asian wellness and wellbeing destination and a great alternative to more familiar places in Europe.”
Among the island’s attractions are its pristine beaches, the Chocolate Hills, and eco-sites such as the Loboc River and Tarsier Sanctuary.
Reggio Calabria in Italy ranked 1st in the list; followed by Tartu, Estonia at 2nd, Siem Reap, Cambodia at 3rd, Baltimore, United States at 4th, Portsmouth, Dominica at 5th, Cordoba, Spain at 6th, and Tromso, Norway at 7th place.
Stuttgart, Germany placed 9th, while Thiruvananthapuram, India placed 10th.
Skyscanner based the rankings on increases in flight searches between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2024, compared to the same period last year—revealing a trend among United Kingdom travelers gravitating toward “lesser-known yet remarkable” destinations beyond Europe.
“It’s clear that smaller, alternative destinations are growing in popularity with UK travelers, who are looking to explore beyond the mainstream in Europe and further afield,” Skyscanner said.
