A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Tarlac City on Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its earthquake information bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor struck three kilometers northeast of Tarlac City at 5:58 a.m.

Phivolcs first recorded it at magnitude 5.2.

The tectonic quake had a depth of focus of 199 km.

The agency recorded the following instrumental intensities:

  • Intensity III – Bani, Pangasinan
  • Intensity II – Santa Ignacia and Ramos, Tarlac; City of Dagupan; Masinloc and Botolan, Zambales; City of Olongapo; Bontoc, Mountain Province; City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity I – City of Tarlac and Bamban, Tarlac; Guagua, Pampanga; Abucay and Dinalupihan, Bataan; City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Santol, La Union; Bustos, Bulacan; Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; City of Navotas

According to Phivolcs, no damage is expected from the earthquake, but aftershocks are likely.
