Hunt on for killers of police officer shot in Cotabato mall carpark

Authorities have launched a manhunt for two suspects who fatally shot a police intelligence officer in the parking area of City Mall of Cotabato on Sunday night.

PLTCOL. Jopy Ventura, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), identified the victim as PMSg. John Manuel Bongcawil, assigned to the police regional office in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.

Initial investigations revealed that Bongcawil was with his family in the parking area around 7:00 p.m. when two armed men opened fire on the victim.

The assailants fled on a motorcycle.

Bongcawil sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. His family was unharmed.

Concerned citizens took the officer to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

PBGEN. Romeo Macapaz, PRO-BAR director, directed the Cotabato City Police Office to conduct an investigation and vowed justice for the slain officer.
