SAP Lagdameo condemns recent killings in Maguindanao

Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr. on Thursday denounced the recent killings in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, saying violence has no place in the country.

“We understand the pain and suffering caused by these violent acts, and offer our sincere condolences for the tragic deaths of Jinn Utto Lumenda-Basalo and her three-month-old daughter,” Lagdameo said in a statement.

The victims were traveling to Barangay Gaunan when ambushed on Dec. 12. Investigators recovered .45-caliber pistol shells at the scene.

Also killed was the mini van driver, Nunokan Manalindo, who is also a resident of Rajah Buayan.

Rajah Buayan Mayor Bai Maruja Ampatuan Mastura earlier confirmed that the slain woman was the wife of one of her soldier escorts.

Police are investigating a possible family feud (rido) as the motive behind the ambush.

Lagdameo said the national government is already coordinating with local law enforcement agencies for an “extensive and swift” investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice, as well as to avoid the repeat of similar incidents.

“Rest assured that we in the national government remain committed in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, as these acts of violence and impunity will not be tolerated,” he said.

“We will continue to work towards lasting peace and stability not just in Rajah Buayan but in the entire region.”
