1.6K Cebu senior citizens get P5-M social pension

A total of 1,672 senior citizens from the city of Danao City, Cebu, have received a total of P5 million in social pension, a social welfare official said on Tuesday.

Tonyson Luther Lee, assistant regional director for administration of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7), said each of the senior citizens received the quarterly P3,000 social pension, representing P1,000 for each month.

The payout was initiated by the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) of the local government of Danao after a selection and validation process conducted by the social welfare agency.

Aside from being at least 60 years old, beneficiaries of the DSWD Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC), needed to be Filipino citizens and residents of the country for at least six months, with no permanent source of income, no regular support from family or relatives, and receiving no pension from either the Social Security System (SSS), the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association, Inc., or any other insurance company.

“We have a strict selection and validation process for the senior citizen social pension,” Lee told the Philippine News Agency.
