The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) clarified that the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) was not disbanded but reorganized into the AFP Security and Protection Group (AFPSPG).

The statement came in response to reports that the VPSPG had been dissolved by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.

In a statement on Saturday, April 5, the AFP explained that the reorganization was part of an administrative adjustment aimed at streamlining security operations.

The changes were approved by the Department of National Defense in February 2025, it said.

“This administrative adjustment was undertaken to unify security and protection operations,” the AFP said.

“It ensures the continued, uninterrupted and robust protection of the Vice President within a more integrated and optimized framework,” it added.

The military said the “current setup is a more efficient and effective way.”

It further appealed to the public to refrain from spreading false or misleading information.

“We enjoin our kababayans to use our communications platforms to promote unity, peace, and understanding, and not to sow discord, hatred, and division,” the AFP said.

The military reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of the Vice President and other key government officials. (With report from Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
