Enough supply of ‘noche buena’ products in Iloilo assured

ILOILO CITY — A few days before Christmas, there is still enough supply of “noche buena” products in Iloilo, trade and industry provincial director Diosdado Cadena assured on Thursday.

He said “noche buena” items like ham, pasta, sauce, cheese, fruit cocktails, among others, are currently in demand but suppliers and establishments guaranteed a steady supply of food for a yuletide feast.

“Prices had been reasonable. The establishments have also committed that they will not go beyond the SRPs (Suggested Retail Prices) in the coming days,” Cadena said based on their monitoring on the first two weeks of this month.

Last November, DTI released copies of list of “noche buena” products covered by SRPs to establishments here.

In a previous interview, DTI-6 regional director Rebecca Rascon said that there is not much problem with the pricing of products as there are a lot of choices available in the market unlike before that some products are only limited to one brand.

In a previous interview, DTI-6 regional director Rebecca Rasco said the presence of other key players in the industry and the presence of alternative products “levels off” the competition in the market, the reason why establishments could not increase the prices of products.

Meanwhile, DTI here deployed teams to continuously monitor the prices of “noche buena” products.

Cadena said that establishments proven to be violating the SRP would face sanctions depending on the gravity of offense.

He then urged the consumers to report any establishment that are selling products beyond the SRP to immediately take actions. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
