OCD-Bicol raises gale warning to fishers, small seacraft owners

LEGAZPI CITY – The regional office of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has warned fishermen and owners of small seacraft against going out to the sea as it raised a gale warning over the waters of Bicol.

OCD-Bicol Regional Director Claudio Yucot said Tropical Storm Vinta has gained strength, prompting them to raise the gale warning.

Yucot said he asked the Philippine Coast Guard and village officials in the region’s coastal areas to implement the necessary measures to prevent fishermen from venturing out into the sea as it is dangerous.

He also told local officials to continue adopting measures to mitigate the effects of calamities, stressing the need to focus on preventing tragedies rather than responding to them.

“The seaboards of Camarines Norte, east coast of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, east coast of Albay and Sorsogon and Northern Samar fishing boats and small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” Yucot added. (Connie Destura/PNA)
