LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) through the committee on health has started coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) for the closer monitoring of firecracker-related incidents.
Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, chairman of the committee on health, said on Thursday this is necessary because he noticed that there are now vendors selling firecrackers in the streets.
He said while the selling of firecrackers is not illegal, this ought to be strictly monitored to ensure that these vendors will only sell the authorized firecrackers.
Rosario reminded that President Rodrigo Duterte had issued Executive Order (EO) No. 28 regulating, not banning, firecrackers, adding that this must be observed by all.
While he is in favor of limiting the use of firecrackers as decreed in that executive order, Rosario believes that the people, especially children, will be protected if vendors will sell only the authorized firecrackers.
Because of EO 28, the Provincial Health Office and the DOH expects lesser number of firecracker injuries this Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
The PHO, for its part, called on the people of Pangasinan to refrain from exploding firecrackers and urged those who may be injured to immediately go to the nearest hospital to prevent the risk of acquiring infection.
Meanwhile, the Regional Medical Center in Dagupan announced it is now ready to admit victims of firecracker explosions. (Ahicam Pasion/PNA)
