The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reminded the public to verify information they receive from entities and individuals claiming to be connected with the BSP.

The BSP made the statement on Monday, May 5, after receiving reports that an entity named “UNA Financing Corporation” is fraudulently using the BSP’s name and logo and the names of BSP employees and officers.

The scheme involves collecting fees and personal information, purportedly to secure the BSP’s clearance for the loan releases sought by individuals.

“The BSP clarifies that it is not connected to, and has no dealings with, UNA Financing Corporation,” the BSP said.

“The BSP further emphasizes that in performing its official functions, neither the BSP nor its personnel will solicit money or request information that could compromise financial accounts,” it added.

The BSP advised the public to refrain from sending money to unverified accounts and from transacting with entities and individuals falsely representing themselves as officers, employees or agents of the BSP.

“The public is also encouraged to verify the information they receive from such entities and individuals claiming to be connected with the BSP and to report their illegal activity to the concerned law-enforcement agencies for investigation and appropriate action,” the BSP said. (PNA)
