PH, U.S. ‘Kamandag’ drills set May 26-June 6

The Philippine and U.S. Marine Corps will participate in the annual “Kamandag” exercises from May 26 to June 6 to bolster cooperation between the two armed services.

Held since 2016, the annual bilateral exercise between the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and the U.S. Marine Corps seeks to enhance multi-national military readiness, interoperability, and regional defense capabilities.

In an advisory, the PMC said “Kamandag”, or Exercise Kaagapay ng Mga Mandirigma Mula sa Dagat, will open at Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown, Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City. No details regarding the number of participating troops and assets were released as of this time.

Some of the high impact training activities include the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive from May 27 to June 5, also in Fort Bonifacio; the so-called maritime and special operating force events at Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui in San Antonio, Zambales and BTPI Firing Range in Morong, Bataan from May 27 to June 4; live-fire integration at the Col. Ernesto Rabina Air Base in Capas, Tarlac on May 29 and a maritime strike in Burgos, Ilocos Norte also on May 29.

A counter-landing/defensive retrograde operation will be conducted by participants at Camp Bojeador, Burgos, Ilocos Norte and Paredes Air Station at Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, both on May 29.

Meanwhile, special operating forces strike will be conducted from May 30 to June 5 at Culili Point, Paoay Sand Dunes, Ilocos Norte and the Laoag International Airport.

Also, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercises will be held from June 2 to 4 at the Berung Airfield, Quezon, Palawan. (PNA)
