Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa on Friday led the inspection and distribution of 41 ambulances in Lanao del Sur, in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos R. Jr. to enhance the provision of modern health equipment and technology for patients residing in remote areas.

“Hindi na kailangan pumunta ng Davao, ng Cebu, o ng Maynila. Available na po ang lahat ng services nito and with the ambulance, magiging mas malapit pa sa mga taumbayan. Iyan ang utos ng ating Presidente,” Herbosa said during a ceremony at Campo Ranao in Marawi City.

The ambulances are designated for distribution across 31 municipalities, as well as the City of Marawi, within the province of Lanao del Sur. These vehicles are designed not only for quick transfer of patients to medical facilities during emergencies, but also equipped with life support equipment, which are maintained to high standards to ensure reliability and safety in their operations.

“So, this is a big boost to the people of BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao). I do hope… even hindi tayo maka-build dyan sa inyong lugar ng well-developed hospital, at least you will have access to four of the BARMM hospitals run by the national government,” Herbosa added.

Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. also participated in the ceremonial turnover of the ambulances, alongside several esteemed national dignitaries, including Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and Education Secretary Sonny Angara.

The measure reflects the national government’s commitment to improve local healthcare delivery, with Adiong highlighting the ambulances’ role, in facilitating access to higher-level medical facilities for patient referrals.

“The turnover of these ambulances marks a significant step toward improving healthcare services in the region, ensuring that residents receive timely medical attention when needed,” the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur said in a Facebook post.

The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Office of the President, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and the Department of Health (DOH), which constitutes a key component of the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP).
