The official population count of the Philippines reached 112,729,484 as of July 1, 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced Thursday.

The latest figure, which is based on the 2024 Census of Population and Housing, showed that the Philippine population increased by 3.69 million compared to the 2020 census, which recorded 109.04 million Filipinos.

According to the PSA, the official count includes all persons residing in the 18 administrative regions of the country as of 12:01 a.m. on July 1, 2024, as well as Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.

This has also been declared official by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. through Proclamation 973 dated July 11, 2025.

The populations by region are as follows:

  • CALABARZON – 16,933,234
  • National Capital Region – 14,001,751
  • Central Luzon – 12,989,074
  • Central Visayas – 6,640,875
  • Bicol Region – 6,064,426
  • Davao Region – 5,389,422
  • Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) – 5,691,583
  • Ilocos Region – 5,342,453
  • Northern Mindanao – 5,178,326
  • Negros Island Region – 4,904,944
  • Western Visayas – 4,861,911
  • Eastern Visayas – 4,625,929
  • SOCSSKSARGEN – 4,462,776
  • Zamboanga Peninsula – 3,943,837
  • Cagayan Valley – 3,777,608
  • MIMAROPA – 3,245,446
  • CARAGA – 2,865,196
  • Cordillera Administrative Region – 1,808,985

Despite the increase in population count, the annual Philippine population growth rate (PGR) slowed to 0.80% from 2020 to 2024 compared to 1.63% between 2015 and 2020.

“The slowdown in the growth rate may be driven by several interrelated factors, such as but not limited to declining fertility and birth rate, elevated mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic, and subdued migration activity,” the PSA explained.

Among the 18 regions, the PSA added that only BARMM posted an increase in its annual PGR at 3.43%, while the Bicol Region experienced a decline in population at -0.07%.
