Not long after the fatal road rage incident that led to the demise of a Meralco employee in Dasmariñas, Cavite last week, the suspect surrendered to the local authorities and was presented in a Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) press conference on Monday.
The erring driver, identified as Jeffrey Alindog, 44, was identified through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing a red Toyota Corolla with plate number TPJ-294 allegedly driven by Alindog edging close to the service vehicle of Mayo Jonel Santos along Jose Abad Santos Avenue.
Their confrontation escalated with the Corolla’s driver fatally shooting Santos in the head, with the latter declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said of Alindog’s arrest, “This is a crime-solved situation. If the local government and the PNP work together, marami tayong malulutas na problema.”
He added, lauding the collaborative efforts of the local governments and the police that led to the resolution of the road rage incident, “Dito, ang mayor, ang governor, at barangay captain, yung tatlong sangay ng local government, nagtulungan para makuha ang suspect agad.”
The suspect is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and is facing murder charges.
Also present in the press conference were PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., National Police Commission (Napolcom) Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan, Cavite Governor Francisco Gabriel Remulla, and Imus City Mayor Alex Advincula.
