In accordance with an earlier directive from Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II to conduct more frequent and stringent inspections on public transport vehicles and transportation facilities, the agency has begun making strides towards ensuring passenger safety and comfort.

This, as the LTFRB suspended the operation of 22 passenger buses citing various violations, with the notification of suspension and show cause orders issued against the Elavil Tours, Phils, Inc., and AMV Travel and Tours, Inc.

A total of 17 passenger buses plying the Bicol-Manila route of the Elavil Tours, Inc. were suspended “for not more than 30 days,” while the same sanction was imposed on five units of the AMV Travel and Tours, Inc.

Chairperson Mendoza said in a statement, “This should serve as a stern warning to transport companies to comply with the minimum standard for safe operations and maintain passenger-friendly stations and terminals.”

Both transport companies were likewise tasked to explain before the board why their franchises should not be cancelled or revoked due to such offenses.
