“Magkaisa tayo. Ang bawat segundo ay mahalaga.”
With Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) continuing on its track towards Northern and Central Luzon, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reminded Filipinos to prepare for the storm vis-à-vis interventions put in place by government agencies that are already placed on ‘full alert.’
In a statement on Saturday, Marcos noted the various initiatives undertaken by concerned offices to ensure prompt disaster response efforts in anticipation of Uwan’s upcoming landfall.
“Ang DOTr at LTFRB ay nakapag-deploy ng mga bus at truck para sa evacuation—habang ang DSWD, DPWH, AFP, at Coast Guard ay may mga nakaposisyong sasakyang pang-rescue, lifeboats, at relief goods sa mga lugar na maaaring tamaan ng bagyo.”
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also spearheaded dredging of waterways and clearing operations on thoroughfares.
Some malls also opened their parking areas to enable residents in flood-prone areas to move their vehicles to higher ground.
As of press time, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is facilitating the pre-emptive evacuation of residents in high-risk areas to mitigate the possible effects of the storm.
The Chief Executive concluded his remarks by advising the citizenry to heed advisories from local authorities and monitor weather updates from official sources.
