ICI probes Cebu flood control projects

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has initiated the inspection of eight flood control projects in the province of Cebu.

In a statement on Monday, the ICI said the inspection covered projects in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City, along the Butuanon River; Barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City, along the Butuanon River; Barangay Tamiao, Municipality of Compostela; Purok Gemelina, Municipality of Compostela; Barangay Cotcot, Municipality of Liloan; Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City; Mananga Bridge, Talisay City; and Dumlog Bridge, Barangay Biasong, Talisay City.

Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr. led the inspection of the projects over the weekend.

“Engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are in Cebu after the inspection to verify whether the required specifications were properly set and met,” the ICI said.

The DPWH was represented by Public Works Undersecretary Arthur Bisnar, and Engineers Mark Gerson Baril, Divino Nabe, Joary Cervantes, and Amernedhamie Macapaar; the AFP was represented by Army Engineering Lt. Col. Bryan Paler; and the PNP team was led by Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan.

Some of the inspected projects were implemented by the 15 contractors named earlier by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his Ulat sa Bayan press conference.

The ICI assured the public that it will continue to conduct inspections nationwide.

It previously inspected flood control projects in Quezon City, Davao City, and Ilocos. (PNA)
