The Bureau of Internal Revenue recently held discussions with TikTok to explore a partnership aimed at strengthening digital tax education and boosting voluntary compliance as part of the government’s 2026 National Tax Campaign.

The meeting, held at the BIR National Office on January 13, 2026, brought together the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and select bureau officials, along with Atty. Yves Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy for TikTok in the Philippines, and the TikTok team.

Under the proposed collaboration, TikTok will support the bureau in disseminating key tax messages through short, platform-appropriate content and creator-led materials, particularly during Tax Awareness Month.

The BIR, in turn, will facilitate on-site and online workshops with TikTok, covering taxpayer registration, taxable income streams, filing and payment procedures, and common compliance issues.

Commissioner of Internal Revenue Charlie Mendoza said digital platforms are now essential in promoting voluntary tax compliance as the bureau seeks to reach taxpayers where they already consume and share information.

“Information dissemination in digital platforms is no longer optional—it is necessary. We must go where the new generation of taxpayers are.

This initiative complements our ongoing digitalization efforts and is in line with the President’s directive to make government transactions easier, as well as the guidance of the Secretary of Finance to create all possible means to strengthen tax collection while providing better assistance to taxpayers.” Mendoza said

TikTok’s Atty. Yves Gonzalez said in a statement, “TikTok is committed to empowering Filipinos with the knowledge and resources to stay informed and navigate their civic duties responsibly in the digital age. We look forward to supporting the BIR in transforming the way they connect with the public through accessible, relatable, and engaging content through their official TikTok channel.”

Both parties agreed to identify focal persons and set an initial timeline for the rollout of collaborative content, workshops, and the launch of the official BIR TikTok account in the coming weeks. (PR)
