President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her decisive electoral win.
Marcos expressed optimism that the Philippines would continue to maintain strong ties with Japan under her leadership.
In a Facebook post, Marcos described Takaichi’s victory as a “landslide win” and a “powerful mandate from the Japanese people.”
“Congratulations to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on this historic win,” Marcos said in a Facebook post.
Marcos issued the statement following the victory of Prime Minister Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in a snap election on Feb. 8, which solidified her position as Japan’s new leader.
He noted that Japan has been a close friend and trusted partner of the Philippines and emphasized the importance of its leadership in regional affairs.
“Japan is a close friend and trusted partner of the Philippines, and its leadership plays a vital role in our region,” Marcos said.
The President added that as this year’s Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) chair, the Philippines seeks closer cooperation with Japan and expects the election result to further strengthen bilateral engagement.
“As ASEAN Chair, we look forward to working closely with your government to strengthen our partnership and move forward together in advancing stability, cooperation, and shared growth across the Indo-Pacific,” he added.
