PCG: No data compromised amid spate of cyberattacks in H2 2025

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recorded 154,000 cyberattack attempts from July to December 2025, according to PCG Commodore Roderick Denila.

Speaking during the Southeast Asia Maritime Media Visits Program in Manila, Denila disclosed that the attacks were detected through various monitoring systems nationwide.

He said in a statement, “A number of attacks are recorded from different ICT equipment that we have. [These are] the logs that we have collected from all the coastal districts of the Philippine Coast Guard, including the national headquarters. It comes from various different IPs all throughout the world.”

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan confirmed that an anchored PCG vessel in the West Philippine Sea experienced cyberattack targeting its communications system, “It was one of our comms (communications system),” Gavan revealed.

When asked about the potential risks, Gavan cited possible operational threats, “They (will) know what we’re going to do,” he said, stressing that “it can compromise the safety of the ship.”

The PCG however maintained that no data has been compromised.

Denila clarified, “We have not recorded yet any gathering of information from our systems. Of course, there are attacks, and we were able to keep them out of our systems.”

He likewise assured the public that the PCG is coordinating closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to address persistent attempts to infiltrate its systems.

The official concluded, “If it is very persistent, we advise our users to shut them down, and then we do our thing, cleaning up operations on the system, and to make sure that there are no vulnerabilities left in that system.”
