Applying lessons learned from his tenure as the former governor of Ilocos Norte, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. continues to double down on his administration’s initiative that makes the most out of the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

At the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang program on Monday, the President led the distribution of 10-kg sacks of rice to 13,571 indigent families in Makati City, with the premise of ensuring their food security amid volatile oil prices.

The rice distribution initiative aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s long-term vision of alleviating hunger among Filipinos, which would contribute to a better and progressive nation in the future.

He moreover clarified that this program is not a one-time affair, but would provide rice sacks to beneficiaries every two months—not just to help them cope with the energy emergency, but also to maintain access to quality staple grain that would complement the food on their tables.

In a separate event, the Chief Executive facilitated the distribution of P200,000 to villages in Makati City—with half of the funds allocated towards supporting the education of 5 Presidential Scholars (P20,000 each) and the other half earmarked for equipment such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, generators, and water pumps.

He concluded his speech by reminding village chiefs of their responsibility as stewards of the downloaded funds from the national government, which would not only improve the state of living within their communities but would also enable select students to rise from poverty and raise the bar of education in the country.

“Kung ano ang pangangailangan ng taumbayan, kung ano ang pangangailangan ng ating mga naghihirap na kababayan, kung ano pa ang aming magagawa para makatulong, ito po ay aming ginagawa—at bukod pa roon, kami po ay nakikinig din sa inyo.” (with report from Clay Pardilla | PTV News)
