After intensifying into a Tropical Depression earlier Sunday, Pilandok underwent several developments in the past few hours amid maintaining its strength.

In PAGASA’s 5:00 p.m. update, Pilandok was last located 1,180 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph as it moves northwestward slowly.

Due to its distance from the Philippine landmass, no wind signals or gale warnings were issued by PAGASA. However, the state weather bureau advised of rough seas over the following coastal waters:

  • Up to 4.0 m: The western seaboard of Babuyan Islands.
  • Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Zambales; the northern seaboard of Babuyan Islands; the western seaboards of Pangasinan and Bataan.
  • Up to 3.0 m: The seaboard of Lubang Islands; the western seaboards of northern La Union, Cavite, Batangas, northern Occidental Mindoro, and Kalayaan Islands.

Tropical Depression Pilandok is forecast to move west northwestward before turning northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.

PAGASA, likewise, added that the weather system is less likely to make landfall over any part of the country and will remain distant from the Philippine landmass—and is set to be a short-lived tropical cyclone that will gradually weaken into a remnant low on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau is currently monitoring another low pressure area outside of the Philippine area of responsibility. As of 2:00 p.m., it was last located 620 km west of Itbayat, Batanes, and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression.

Both weather systems are expected to enhance the effects of southwest monsoon (habagat), which continues to bring rainfall over several regions in the Philippines.
